Epitalon
Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly Tetrapeptide
A four-residue tetrapeptide and the cleanest chromatogram in the catalogue — there is very little room for a synthesis to go wrong.
Epitalon is the shortest sequence we stock and, unsurprisingly, the purest. The only real handling risk is aspartimide formation at the Asp-Gly junction, which is a classic and well-documented problem: under basic piperidine deprotection the aspartate side chain can cyclise onto the following glycine nitrogen and quietly cost you a fifth of your yield as an unusable isomer. We suppress it with a hindered ester on the Asp side chain and an additive in the deprotection solution, then confirm the absence of the β-isomer by an extended-gradient analytical run rather than the standard method.
